What is Mental Health?
The World Health Organization defines health as a state of complete physical, mental, and social well-being, and not merely the absence of disease or infirmary. This is exactly what global mental health professionals work to address. It is extremely integral for our personal well-being and health, and can be affected by so many things, like the community you live in, your access to care, sexuality, whether or not you use substances like alcohol, tobacco, or other drugs, if you’ve moved between cities and countries, and even how and why you move to your new home. Here at NYUGPH we work with all of the factors that impact daily life, how to develop themes about why one community might be more effected than another, and prepare you to work with this complex topic in many different settings.
