Hair loss can be from several different causes and can be scarring or non scarring.
The most common cause in men and women is androgenic alopecia (male or female pattern hairloss).
Other common types include telogen effluvium (stress induced), alopecia areata (autoimmune), and frontal fibrosing alopecia.
If there’s confusion about the type you have your doctor may do a hair pull test or even a biopsy, but many types can be diagnosed just on exam.
1. Most forms of early alopecia will respond to minoxidil
5%. It’s toxic to pets!
2. Boost the effect of minoxidil by microneedling with
0.5-0.75mm needles weekly and daily scalp massage
3. Hair serum with caffeine may reduce shed with telogen effluvium.
4. For male and female pattern baldness, washing scalp several times a week with Nizoral shampoo can help.
5. Telogen effluvium will often resolve on its own 4 months after removing the stress/injury.
6. Make sure your diet is sufficient in protein, zinc, iron, vitamin B and D.
