“Then and Now” is my design for the international sand sculpture competition in Jelgava.
This year’s theme is the Jurassic Era, so my sculpture will feature the legendary T-Rex and Chicken.
Past and present come together in a single story, where imagination meets reality.
On one side is our vision of the mighty Tyrannosaurus rex, while on the other are the quiet traces preserved by time and revealed through science.
These two perspectives are bridged by modern birds, which scientifically belong to the same theropod lineage as T-Rex. They are not merely distant descendants, but a continuous thread of evolution, preserving shared traits in their skeleton, movement, respiratory system, and even behavioral instincts.
It reveals that dinosaurs have not vanished — they have only changed form and scale, and the domestic chicken is one of them: a living dinosaur in our everyday world.
