7 Design Trends You Need to Know Before 2027

Interior design trends for 2027 are moving toward warmth, texture and real material detail, and this is my forecast for where it all lands. I design homes and I build them, so I am picking finishes now for projects that will not be finished until 2028. That lag is why I have to hold a position on next year before next year arrives.

Inside, I walk through seven shifts I see carrying into 2027. Warm wall colors becoming the new baseline, and the nine-at-night test I run on every color before it goes on a schedule. Materiality returning to the kitchen through fluting, reeding, inset detail, integrated pulls, curved ends and stone used architecturally instead of only as a countertop.

The back kitchen, scullery and butler’s pantry taking the everyday work so the main kitchen can stay beautiful. Comfort getting refined, with deeper modular seating, curved silhouettes and richer fabrics like velvet and chenille moving past the all-white boucle moment.

The dining table coming back as the center of how people gather. Lighting designed from the beginning instead of chosen last, in plaster, ceramic, alabaster, aged brass and hand-blown glass. And the room no longer stopping at the walls, with color drenching, grasscloth, hand-painted paper, Venetian plaster, limewash and ceilings finally treated as part of the design.

None of these are about chasing a look. The thread under all seven is a home that feels considered from every angle, and still feels right years after the job closes.

Which of these is already in your home, and which one are you finally ready to change? Tell me in the comments.
