Designer Alana Firestone’s Toronto Home Is Old World — And Anything But Cookie-Cutter
When designer Alana Firestone, who runs Collective Studio with partner Jordy Fagan, took on the role of client during her own home renovation, she had a clear vision: a warm, welcoming space that could accommodate a big family and lively gatherings without feeling cookie-cutter or too precious.
It’s hard to pick a favourite room in this character-filled home, where timeless materials take centre stage and trends are nowhere in sight. Exposed brick, wood panelling and unlacquered brass create a rich, layered backdrop, while unexpected moments — from a hidden den to a pink dining room and a showstopping bar that disappears when not in use — give the home its personality.
The kitchen has a distinctly European feel and panel-ready appliances that blend seamlessly into the design. “The innovation of the appliances doesn’t come at the expense of the design,” says Jordy.
