Five 2027 interior design trends that are actually worth your money, and four that’ll have your house looking dated in three years.

I went through everything that debuted this fall so you don’t have to: the Kips Bay Show House in New York, Maison et Objet in Paris, Salone del Mobile in Milan, and the Spring 2027 runways. Nine trends, one verdict each.

On the worth-it side, the den is replacing the home office, and 1stDibs’ designer survey backs it up with home office requests dropping while Apartment Therapy calls the den one of the trendiest rooms of 2027.

Asymmetry is in and it costs you nothing. Supersized ceramics showed up everywhere in Paris. Modern cottage is what’s finally replacing modern farmhouse, according to both Maria Killam and the design team at Havenly. And rich wood is taking over floors, cabinets, vanities and walls, with Houzz now showing wood cabinets beating white 29 percent to 28 and the NKBA reporting wood vanities have overtaken painted ones.

Then there are the four I’d skip. One of them is hardwired into your ceiling. One of them is the single biggest piece of furniture you’ll ever buy. I’ll tell you exactly where I’d draw the line on each, and the cheap version of the trend to try instead if you love the look.
