Premature ejaculation or Early discharge of semen is a very common problem in men. But surprisingly, only few people have the actual problem among them who think they have premature ejaculation problems.

Many men even feel that they have an early ejaculation problem during masturbation which is scientifically incorrect.

So, let’s see what actually premature ejaculation means and how to treat this.

The normal ejaculation time depends on several factors. it takes an average of 5 to 7 minutes for a man to reach orgasm and ejaculate. But the overall range is wide, from less than one minute to over half an hour.

International guidelines define premature ejaculation as regularly ejaculating within 1 minute of entering your partner.

So, It is diagnosed as premature ejaculation if
the ejaculation almost always occurs unintentionally within one minute of penetration,
And this has been occurring for more than six months,

However, it’s up to you and your partner to decide if you’re happy with the time it takes you to ejaculate.

If ejaculation times are causing you persistent distress then it’s a problem and you should seek medical attention

Now, a few more things you should keep in mind.

In medical term it is not considered as premature ejaculation problem if it only happens occasionally

If you haven’t had sex for quite a long time then it’s normal to become aroused more quickly at first and reach orgasm faster.

And also, it is not related to masturbation

There are mainly 2 types of premature ejaculation:
primary premature ejaculation – where you have always had the problem
secondary premature ejaculation – where you recently developed the problem

The causes of primary premature ejaculation are often psychological, such as having a traumatic sexual experience at an early age.

Secondary premature ejaculation can be caused by both psychological and physical factors. Physical causes can include drinking too much alcohol and inflammation of the prostate gland.

Now before visiting a doctor you can try few self-help techniques like

You can masturbate 1 to 2 hours before having sex. It will decrease the sensitivity and excitement, which will help you to hold for a longer time.

Try to use a thick condom. It will help to decrease sensation.

taking breaks during sex and distracting yourself by thinking about something completely different can also be helpful

You can use selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors like Dapoxetine which is specifically designed to treat premature ejaculation.

You can also use some topical cream and sprays to decrease the sensitivity.
